Heavy Menstrual Bleeding (HMB): The Lived Experience Guide

Did you know around 47% of women aged 18-55 in the UK experience Heavy Menstrual Bleeding (HMB) symptoms? [1]

If you didn’t, you’re not alone.

During our survey in July 2022, where we spoke to 1,000 women who experienced heavy periods, we discovered a common trend – a lack of direction and understanding when finding treatment.

In fact, 62% of those suffering do not realise that heavy menstrual bleeding (also known as menorrhagia) [1] is a diagnosable medical condition. With a taboo remaining around period conversations, many suffer in silence – it’s time for a change! Heavy menstrual bleeding can severely impact the daily lives of those who suffer, with 32% saying they are less productive at work[1], where life becomes debilitating. With 3.8 billion women in the world[2] – it’s time to open up the conversation, normalise period talk and educate and empower women to seek help when needed.

Be Bloody Confident brings together ‘The Lived Experience’, a personal report from our recent survey, documenting our key findings of the shared emotions and reflections of women who have experienced heavy periods.

If you are struggling with the symptoms of menorrhagia, empower your steps to treatment with the downloadable report. By combining this with our Heavy Period Questionnaire and Talking Heavy Periods guide, elevate your GP visits with clear evidence to help you Be Bloody Confident.
